President, Michael Clyde

Michael started his career with the Iowa State Patrol in 2005. Michael has been a member of the Executive Protection Unit, Technical Accident Investigation Team, Field Training Officer, Technical Flight Officer, and Crisis Negotiator. Michael is currently assigned as the Technical Operations Officer with the Department of Public Safety and is the Crisis Negotiation Program Coordinator for the Patrol.

Vice President, Jeremy Pullen

Jeremy started with the Iowa Department of Corrections as a correctional officer in 2003. Currently he is a Psychologist III at the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility and is also a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. Jeremy has been involved in crisis negotiations with the Department of Corrections for 15 years and is currently the Statewide DOC CNT team leader and team leader for the Fort Dodge and North Central Correctional facilities.

Treasurer, Sheila Vorwaldt

Sheila Vorwaldt started her career at the Iowa State Penitentiary in 1997.  She has been a member of the ISP Crisis Negotiation team since 1998, became Assist Team Leader in 2013 and State Crisis Negotiation team Secretary since 1999.   Sheila volunteered to help with the Conference/Competition at its inception in 2013.  Since 2015, Sheila has been on the Iowa Crisis Negotiation Association Leadership Team and currently holds the role of Treasurer.

Troy Stupka/DOC

Troy has been with the Department of Corrections since 2000. Troy has served as the Control Center Sergeant, Yard Crew Sergeant, and currently serves as the Vehicle Entrance Sergeant at Anamosa State Penitentiary. Troy has also served on the DOC CERT team for 13 years before transitioning into the CNT in 2015. Troy is currently the Team Leader at ASP. Troy currently serves as the DOC at Large position for IACNA and chairs the fundraising and sponsorship committee.

Secretary, Richard Fullmer

Rick has been with the Dubuque Police Department since 2012. Since then, he has spent time on patrol as a field training officer and in the Community Oriented Policing unit as a School Resource Officer and DARE instructor. He has been a member of the department’s crisis negotiation unit since 2014. Rick is an Emotional Intelligence Coach for the City of Dubuque and Force Science De-escalation instructor. In 2020 Rick was promoted to Corporal and then to Lieutenant and currently serves as a supervisor in the Patrol division.  Rick has earned a Master’s Degree in Communications from the University of Dubuque. In addition to working for the City, Rick is an Adjunct Professor at Loras college where he teaches in the Criminal Justice Department and at the University of Dubuque where he teaches Emotional Intelligence.  

Sgt. Michael Hernandez - Western IA Director

Sgt. Michael Hernandez has been with the Council Bluffs Police Department since 2001.  Prior to that he served in the United States Marine Corps and as a jailer and reserve deputy in Mills County, Iowa.  Hernandez has worked in several areas of law enforcement (traffic enforcement, accident reconstruction, undercover operations, criminal investigations, and school resource officer) and has been an instructor in various areas.  Hernandez is certified in adult and juvenile CIT and is a Force Science De-escalation Instructor.  He became a full-time negotiator with Council Bluffs Police in 2017.  Hernandez is a supervisor on the Peer Support Team and the Crisis Negotiator Team.

Advisory Board, Tim Fricke

Tim Fricke has been with the Des Moines Police Department since 2001. He has served in the Crimes Against Property Unit, Patrol and Traffic Unit and the SRO at Hoover High School in Des Moines. Tim has been part of the Crisis Negotiation team with the police department since 2008. Tim has served on the IACNA as Vice President and President since 2014. Tim will transition to the Board or Directors.
